Ten Things of Note

midnightmind, August 13, 2024March 12, 2026

As published in MIDNIGHT MIND NUMBER THREE

Style choices.
Many times we battle with certain choices to make when it comes to the style that we will use. Grammar choices aren’t easy because no matter what you choose, someone, somewhere, doesn’t like it. For example, our use of spaces on both sides of an em dash. We like them. Some don’t. Another choice we made was to start all the pieces halfway down the page. The result is that some poems which would normally fit onto one page now take up two. We like this. Some don’t. Yet another choice we made was to never include the word “zippity” in this issue. Some don’t like that. One more choice, a tough one, was to add little sayings after some of the titles (i.e. Fromm’s “Shooting Stars” became “Shooting Stars – a story”. Perhaps we will look back on this in the future and see this as a mistake, but not now. We like that. It sort of gives you an idea of things.

Not jumping on a bandwagon but . . .we, too, love N.Y. (especially along the Hudson River)

Submission information.
To submit work to Midnight Mind Magazine you must follow these important guidelines: Mail it to us. Or you can email it to us. The one thing that we ask is that you check if the issue you are submitting work to has a theme (at MidnightMind.com) as most will. If the issue has a theme, follow that theme. If you are sending something in for consideration to the web site, send it via email. And it would do well to say, “this is for consideration for the web site.” so we don’t get confused and put it in the journal reading pile and then get mad that it doesn’t fit the theme.

Mail things to: Midnight Mind Magazine (address redacted) or submit via email to: info@MidnightMind.com

Distribution information.
Right now Midnight Mind Magazine and White Fish Press books are distributed by the following companies: Bernhard DeBoer, INC (Nationwide) Baker & Taylor (Nationwide) Palm Island Press (Lower Florida) Partners Book Distributor (The Great Lakes States)

Possible taglines.
As you may have noticed we now use the tagline “Culture Defined”. This was not easy in coming and we spent many nights talking about it. Some of the rejected taglines were:
USING AS MANY BRAIN CELLS AS POSSIBLE
SEEING OUR WAY THROUGH THIS MESS
WE ROCK
PERFECT BATHROOM READING

A book to read.
The Burnt Orange Heresy by Charles Willeford.

For more great writing.
Please visit www.MidnightMind.com for really good stuff by many of the authors in this and other issues, as well as many other authors. It is good stuff. Really. Sean Sullivan’s stuff is great. So is Dave Runyon’s and David Ray’s. All of it is great. So visit us on-line, where we have a little more freedom to post strange things.

Our top five car movies.
1. Vanishing Point
2. Two Lane Blacktop
3. Days of Thunder
4. Hollywood Nights
5. Thelma & Louise

Our demands.
We declare that the area formally known as “The Midwest” will henceforth exclude the states of Michigan, Wisconsin, Illinois, Indiana, and Minnesota. From now forward, the above mentioned states can only be referred to as “The Great Lake States”. It is about time we got this correct.

A message for author Elwood Reid.
You, sir, Rock.
