Phillip Corwin’s poetry has been nominated for inclusion in the Pushcart Prize anthology. “Winter
Morning Briefing” (first published on MidnightMind.com) is from an unpublished collection about former Yugoslavia, where Mr. Corwin spent most of his time between 1992 and 1997, as a diplomat for the
UN and for the OSCE (Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe). He is the author of
Dubious Mandate: A Memoir of the UN in Bosnia, Summer 1995 (Duke U. Press, 1999) and Doomed in
Afghanistan: A UN Officer’s Memoir of the Fall of Kabul and the Failed Escape of Najibullah, 1992
(Rutgers U. Press, 2003).
